The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Radio Show, Live!

What the show was about

Space is big. Really big. Vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big. You may think it's a long way down the street to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space ...

Arthur Dent is having a bad day. Both his house and his planet have been demolished. The girl he really - really - fancied is on the third arm of a two-headed alien. His best friend isn't from Guildford after all, but a small planet near Betelgeuse. He hasn't even managed to find himself a decent cup of tea. And he's still wearing his dressing gown.

This year theatre audiences will be able to experience the ultimate sci-fi comedy epic first hand, from the Heart Of Gold to the Restaurant At the End Of The Universe, performed live on stage by Simon Jones, Susan Sheridan, Geoff McGivern, Mark Wing-Davey and other original Hitchhiker's cast members under the direction of Dirk Maggs, Douglas's personal choice to complete the saga in its original medium.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Radio Show, Live! creates anew the most enduring version of Douglas Adams’s masterwork in a radio-style stage show filled with laughter, really wild sound effects and drinks with extremely silly names.

Douglas Adams's unique, irreverent and hilarious views on everything from Tea-making to Towels have won The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy an ever-growing band of devoted readers, listeners and viewers. Parents pass their scratchy recordings of the radio shows and dog-eared copies of the novels to their grateful and eager children. Previously insignificant phrases like 'Life the Universe And Everything' and perfectly innocuous numbers like '42' have now entered the language as reminders of Douglas's comedic and creative genius - even for the few people who haven't been directly exposed to his work.

This show, originated by Dirk Maggs and Simon Jones, the original Arthur Dent, who are also co-producing this tour, is firmly rooted in Douglas's fertile imaginings by those who knew him best. It is a completely authentic, canonical, self-contained adventure containing all the most popular catchphrases and characters in his Universe. Amongst much else it will introduce newcomers to Babel Fish, Marvin the Paranoid Android, the Ultimate Answer to Life, The Universe And Everything - and delight Hitchhiker fans of all ages as the magic of Douglas Adams is re-created live before their eyes.
